Another Great NPR Story

I was driving my son to preschool this morning and listening to NPR. There was a moving interview with Theresa Sparks along with her story of being raised in Kentucky as "Beaver Cleaver". She talked about getting married and having children thinking that this would "fix" everything. The thing needing fixed was that she felt like she was a woman in a mans body. She eventually came to accept herself and went through gender reassignment surgery. Since this, she has been living in the San Francisco area and has done many wonderful things to advocate for transgender individuals. To read up on her: http://www.theresasparks.com/advocacy.html
It is worth the read! Way to go Theresa, we love you!

Purple-October 20, 2010

Wear Your PURPLE tomorrow. Support the "It Gets Better Project" ! Recent suicides of some gay teens have brought attention to individuals who have started to speak out against bullying of teens.
The Trevor Project http://www.thetrevorproject.org is a on-line support for gay youth at risk of suicide.
It is good to bring this subject out in the open, starting talking, and help those in need. A big thank you goes out to all these wonderful people who are talking. A great story to hear is Joel Burns story http://youtube.com/watch?v=ax96cghOnY4
