Good BYE don't ask don't tell !!!!

Wow, what a nice surprise for me to read on Yahoo this morning.

"It is time to close this chapter in our history," Obama said in a statement. "It is time to recognize that sacrifice, valor and integrity are no more defined by sexual orientation than they are by race or gender, religion or creed." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101218/ap_on_go_co/us_gays_in_military

Another Great NPR Story

I was driving my son to preschool this morning and listening to NPR. There was a moving interview with Theresa Sparks along with her story of being raised in Kentucky as "Beaver Cleaver". She talked about getting married and having children thinking that this would "fix" everything. The thing needing fixed was that she felt like she was a woman in a mans body. She eventually came to accept herself and went through gender reassignment surgery. Since this, she has been living in the San Francisco area and has done many wonderful things to advocate for transgender individuals. To read up on her: http://www.theresasparks.com/advocacy.html
It is worth the read! Way to go Theresa, we love you!

Purple-October 20, 2010

Wear Your PURPLE tomorrow. Support the "It Gets Better Project" ! Recent suicides of some gay teens have brought attention to individuals who have started to speak out against bullying of teens.
The Trevor Project http://www.thetrevorproject.org is a on-line support for gay youth at risk of suicide.
It is good to bring this subject out in the open, starting talking, and help those in need. A big thank you goes out to all these wonderful people who are talking. A great story to hear is Joel Burns story http://youtube.com/watch?v=ax96cghOnY4

Fundamental American Value

Ted Olson's interview with Chris Wallace on fox news is outstanding. In summary, marriage is a fundamental right of all Americans and prop 8 is unconstitutional. It is about time the federal government becomes involved because many rights of Americans are being taking away by calling marriage for gay people "same-sex marriage" and banning it. Marriage is marriage!

Hawaii's Governor Tsk Tsk Tsk

Seriously Governor Lingle, what are you saying? Same-sex civil unions are the same as same-sex marriage, just a different name?

"And the No. 1 reason civil union is substantively different than marriage: The word "marriage" is the gateway to the 1,138 federal protections afforded married couples. Without that word, same-sex couples in civil unions have no claim for those legal protections. If the marriage exclusion were abolished, same-sex married couples would have a stronger standing - both legal and political - to challenge the federal discrimination."
